Common questions
Before you book
- Do I need a permit for a skip in Birmingham?
- Only if the skip sits on a public road, pavement or verge. On your own driveway you need nothing. For a road placement in Birmingham the council charges £42 for up to 7 days, and applications need about 5 working days' notice. Residents cannot apply themselves — it has to come from a registered skip operator, which we are, so we arrange it for you.
- What size skip do I need?
- For most home renovations a 6 yard builders skip is the safe choice: roughly 60 bin bags and it takes soil and rubble. Use a 2 or 4 yard skip for small clear-outs. Choose a 12 yard maxi skip only for bulky but light waste such as timber, packaging and furniture.
- Can I put soil, rubble and hardcore in any skip?
- No. Heavy waste is limited by weight rather than space, so a skip can be over its allowance while it still looks half empty. A 8 yard skip is the practical maximum for a full load of soil, rubble or hardcore. Anything larger has to be mixed with lighter material.
